Chairs 36 and 37- 60's metal chairs

I can only get one pic to post right now- I'm not good at blogging away from home. Anyway, there is a pair of these, they are metal framed with vinyl (YELLOW) seat and back. The YELLOW was very very loud and so I sewed up some covers for them. They really aren't that comfortable- I am pretty sure they came out of the local university- and they may have to leave next spring. Nice lines though, and they come in handy for extra seating.

No chairs because of the cure

well, these last weeks have been busy with me doing the AT 8 week cure, and it's all coming to a head now, so no chair blogging for now. This is my list of accomplishments

1. painted kitchen with first coat of new paint.
2 removed old tiles from kitchen wall.
3. cleaned nasty soap scum from bathroom
4 cleaned and organized basement and sewing room ( a HUGE job)
5. got my husband to call in a furnace repair man (thurs! yea heat!)
6. cleaned and organized my sons room and his closet.
7. cleaned and organized my bathroom
8 put up new lamp in bedroom, and new bedstand for J
9. Organized linen closet and threw away old medicine and product.
10. painted walls and floor, cleaned and organized mud room into proper room. Stained newly built stairs.
11. raked leaves (ICK)
12. new curtains for living room, made new pillow covers, put winter items out and brought back the wool rug.
13. started work on laundry, new shelf, new rod, new curtains. Picked new paint colors. Removed old baseboard heater, put in new trim, caulked, took out old thermostat.
14. took some stuff to goodwill.

I had thought that I hadn't gotten a lot accomplished the cure go round, but reading my list, I was wrong. I really have gotten a lot done. Now I feel kind of proud, and I am really looking forward to doing my kitchen. Now I just have to find the tile I want.

Comfy arm chair- chair 35

This is an arm chair that is approx 30 years old- made in Michigan. Replacement cushions. I have slept in the chair (with an ottoman) it's wide and comfy. Yea! My mom bought the chair for me (with it's orignal cushions) for 12 dollars.

Where the Edith and Archie chairs ended up

The sofa under the slip cover was a danish modern score for 30 bucks. It's 13 feet long. I don't like the upholstery though... it is very comfortable and seats alot of people so that is why it's so great!

2 project chairs- chairs 33 and 34

These are smaller, childs chairs. They need a bit of love as you can tell, a good sand and a coat of sealant is all really. These are molded plywood and other than the finish issues, are in great shape. 6 dollars I believe, is what I paid for them. These 2 are not included in my original count of 46 chairs, but I will count them now- 33 and 34.

They are being stored until next spring. Then I will work on them, and they will replace the 2 smaller child chairs my son is currently using.

Not a chair! My mothers Herman Miller Compact Sofa

I think that everyone out there will hate me and my entire family after reading these posts. The only reason my mother has this is because I couldn't get to this auction. A nice Herman Miller compact sofa, very nice condition. Foam is a bit hard, but not crumbly. Original covering, original condition.
She bought this for 50 bucks. PLUS- she bought 2 low wire fiberglass armchairs (Herman Miller of course) at the same auction for 25 bucks. For both. Idiot auctioneer had no idea what this was- She sold the armchairs (again, the money was just to good not to) but is keeping the sofa for her sunporch area.
Please, don't ask me where we live. I want this all to myself- it's hard enough trying to get stuff before my mom scoops it up.....

My rare "Jason" chair by Carl Jacobs for Kandya

These are Jason chairs, made by Kandya ltd from England, designed in Denmark by Carl Jacobs. They are from around 1950. They are one piece of beech laminate. This is a C2 style- it has wooden legs. The C3 style comes with metal legs. They were all made to be inexpensive stacking chairs.
Mine have been stained by some previous owner who wanted a darker finish. But I wasn't going to not buy them because of that fact. I have since sold 2 of them. They really aren't sitting chairs for my family, and the money was really good. I still have one. sorry for the cruddy photo - it sort of disappears into the floor doesn't it?
This is chair 32.

ENJOY!

My plycraft chair has moved!

My Mr. said it was a shame to have the plycraft in my office where only I could appreciate it. So we moved it to the living room. That corner is a bit crowded due to kiddie stuff- but the cow and doll chair are only there temporarily. Then it will be more open....

project chair- any ideas?- chair 31

project chair- any ideas?

bought as a project chair for 2 dollars, I stripped off the nasty fabric to the straps and I have primed it. I just need to get off my behind and finish it. It is really an easy chair to fix, the fabric on the back and seat won't be hard to replace, and painting will only take an hour or so- so I just need to get a plan. I also don't know where it will live- it may go to my downstairs sewing room. I love this chair- it's different than anything else that I have- but it's also difficult to visualize in my space.

Workroom chairs- chairs 28,29, and 30.

the new (to me) chairs
Originally uploaded by thefarmersdaughter

these are 3 chairs that I purchased this spring- 5 bucks. I need to restain them and put new fabric on the seats- that mauve calico just needed to be gone. They are sturdy and wider than most chairs that look like this. It won't actually be alot of work to bring these chairs back from the dead- but I don't know what I will do with them after reviving them. Any ideas are apreciated.

I have a few chairs in my workroom, and will be blogging about them next, now that I have finished blogging about the chairs upstairs.

(Although it appears they are sitting in a damp place by the drain, that is actually a permanent stain left on the cement by the former owners. )

1970's armchairs- very edith and Archie Bunker

chairs 26 and chairs 27. # 1. the spot on the chair with the ottoman is not on the chair, that is only from the camera. (stupid camera) They are actually in perfect condition- they even have the extra fabric arm covers. They are sort of a his and hers set. The one with the ottoman is larger and taller than the other. Sexist time- huh? Anyway, they are very comfortable, but we are going to sell them. These are older pics from last years spring AT cure.

My husband bought the pair with the ottoman for 20 dollars at a local thrift store. We just don't really need them, and though they do go with the decor, I prefer the smaller danish modern armchairs with the removable slipcovers- with a dog, cat and toddler- washing makes more sense. They will be stored in my storage room until spring when they will be put out for sale. Someone should really enjoy these babies.

I won't be putting anymore chairs up this weekend- getting away- maybe more chairs to buy? Anyway, I'll see you on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone!

handpainted (by me) art chair

Chair 25 was a chair I "rescued" from the garbage. Not all that sturdy- not pretty, pretty plain, I didn't know what to do with it- my brother- who is an artist- suggested painting it. One rainy afternoon I decided it couldn't look worse. I actually like it now, and it is in my workroom.

I have posted on all the chairs on my 1st floor now. I am going to start tomorrow with chairs in my family room and basement work areas. There are a lot down there. I also have 6 more chairs outside to post about and over half a dozen in my outside workroom to post about. Project chairs will probably need some imput from you- I need some ideas about them- from paint to fabric.

new black fiberglass armchair/shell chair- chair 24

you can see this is a new purchase- still has a price tag on it. I purchased it for 2 dollars, and I am going to put it out for re sale in a few weeks. I put 15 dollars on it- but I think that might be to low. It's in very nice condition. It came out of a college. Heavy metal legs and a thick and sturdy shell. I am going to count this chair after all- I may not sell it. I don't know yet....

chair 23- Steelcase Orange desk chair

My husband purchased this chair for me- I use it in my downstairs sewing room It is a dark burnt orange with a black back and bottom. It's a steelcase from Grand Rapids Mi. It is build to withstand a frontal assault from a tank. This is a workhorse. 5 bucks. Yup, 5 bucks. And at the time, I thought he should have only paid 3, but since the fabric was in such nice condition, I let those other 2 bucks slide......

chairs 19-22 My Heywood Wakefield Dining room chairs

I'll add the pic of the other 2 dogbone chairs when I get home tonight. They were 1 dollar each for the dog bone chairs, 2 dollars for the armed captain style chair. They were in ruined condition finish wise with no seat bottoms. I painted them brown (and the 2 I haven't pictured are in my workroom to be refinished again) and put this odd fabric on them for color. They were my dining chairs for about 5 years- last year I changed to the danish modern style, and the Herman miller shell chairs. The Heywood Wakefield are going to go downstairs to the family room- I have a large oak circular dining table that I got for free (ok, just the top-no legs I have to fix that) and they are going to go around that for a gaming table. I suppose that one day I may have to sell them- who really needs 12 dining room chairs? But not now.
