Is there a name for pre BEFORE pictures? It's time for a bedroom project!

My bedroom has been a source of anger and anoyment  for me since we moved in 10 years ago. At first we lived in the basement (long story....but it had to do with the heating system in this house) then we moved upstairs when we had the baby. ALL the rooms in this house are TINY. TINY. Wait, let me say that again...TINY. We have two 8x10 bedrooms, and ours is 10x11 (ish). Basically, they are bedsized bedrooms.

One of the small rooms is my sons, the other is a catch all room that changes all the time...a library? a playroom? an office? That little thing has never been right..... and I also plan on working on that this winter....but I can't get ahead of myself. This is about MY bedroom, and my hatred of it.

Hate is a strong word. I don't hate it all. I do hate some of it though.

Here are my "now" pictures.
(they are actually like my room is...I just threw the duvet on the bed and snapped...no "staging" or "cleaning" it is what it is....  This first picture is the view from the door..... oh wait, did I also mention that this room has two doors, two windows and one wall is the closet? Yes, all in less than 120 sq. ft. Throw the fact in that I have the WORLDS UGLIEST CARPET.... well..... now you get the picture.

The view from the bathroom door. Behind that acid trip fabric headboard is a window.  The tall dresser is mine, and I would love to find something similar but shorter.

This is the view from the far corner looking out toward the hallway. The white curtains hide the Mr's closet. He keeps his clothes in here, mine are in the hallway closet. It was my idea, so calm down. He works outside the home for a living and has to dress nice for the job. He needs more room than I do.

This is the view from the closet. The door in the corner goes to the 1/2 bathroom that is connected to this bedroom. There are two pieces of art on that wall. The black used to be up, the painting hanging is a test.

Below is the view from the door when you first come in and shows the dressers. I would love to find a second smaller dresser to match this one...or even one that is similar so that both sides would have a smaller dresser/bedside table to use. .....

I want to keep the dressers, the bed (queen is the largest we can have and still move around this room)  the lamp on the dresser  and the layout.......and that's about it. I prefer white bedding, but I might change my mind if I find something I like. The floor, the wall color, all the accessories are all up for grabs.

This is my quest. I want to re do this room. I want to keep it very eclectic, but I do want to pare some of the stuff down. Think I can do it?

I sure hope so.

blue boys bedroom

I love this rom, the loft bed is one of my favorites, but the curtains are a close runner up....

We lost power for a few days, so now that we are back up I'm just catching up on everything that we missed.... I'll try to do a links post tomorrow and be back on Monday.

Have a good weekend..

Boys bedrooms

why do kids rooms in decor magazines and online sorta suck? I am not the mural kind of gal- or shabby chic.... kids rooms need to show their personality more than their moms and they need storage- kids come with lots of gear.  And why do they mainly do girls rooms online and in deco mags? Don't boys need good design too? I mean, if they don't learn what they like and what looks good together aren't we dooming them to a life of "dogs playing poker" art and milk carton furniture?

I laugh when I see the kids rooms in magazines- how long does it stay clean? As long as they are taking pictures.....

These are pics that I love, that I think show good design and more importantly, are for BOYS......
From the Dwell catalog....

From Elle Decor

apartment therapy- the mural, the adult chairs, the colors are all fantastic.

I have no idea where this came from- but the mobil/planes on the ceiling are fantastic

maybe a pottery barn catalog?  I just love the globes hanging from the ceiling and the maps on the walls...

I have been busy with my OWN house-my 3.49 bedroom re-design

Yes, I re did my bedroom for a total of 3.49 cents. Here is a before....

First I removed the shelves..

Then I primed and painted. Primer was left over from the dining room paint job, the paint was a left over gallon of Ralph Lauren mistint (5 bucks) that I bought 5 years ago when I painted my living room....
Then I went scavaging in my own house. The only new thing I bought was 3.49 for a new roller to paint with....
Above is where you see the carpet (under rug) that will be removed this summer. Cause it's UGLY
I painted the small door to the 1/2 bath the same as the wall. Still need to install the doorknob though- oops....
This Heywood wakefield dresser needs to go actually, I need to find a shorter 3 drawer one, but until I find it, I have to have drawers. Function over form people.....

I am so tired of painting.

My project, repainting the bedroom. I followed the "experts" advice 4 years ago and used flat paint on my cruddy walls. After all, "you won't see so many defects that way". I knew flat paint isn't so washable, but I figured, it's not the boys room- how dirty can it get?

Plenty.  So, I'm repainting in a satin that is washable this time around. The room is also going from blue to a green/tan color.
I am also painting the useless door to the 1/2 bathroom the wall color so it doesn't stick out, and all the trim in the house is being repainted white . Why does this job suck so much? This room is 9 x 12 and the bed (a queen) can't be moved out of it. I have to paint around it.
This is a footboard that I found in the trash. Yes, dumpster diving so to speak. There is a tiny amount of wall between the bed and the big black fabric artwork hung over it- it will be filled nicely by this footboard turned headboard. I just have to sand it a little and stain it. Not a big deal for me and I have all the stuff, so it will be FREE when it's complete.

Kermit would love this place.++UPDATED++

and so do I.

busier than the past few days inspiration photos, but I feel drawn to this room too. Although, I have to say, a large part of that is due to the black and white quilt on the bed.

This room is by Sheila Bridges.
This room is by N UR Space- simpler, cleaner use of bright green.

I have more inspiration in my little finger....

It's not that I don't love stuff like this apartment therapy house tour- because I do-love it I mean. The table, the chairs (which are like mine) the big colorful fun paintings, the MCM furniture-I think this is great- But, I seem to be drawn more to this now-

Elle Decor-07

It appears that I am leaning towards white, but I think that I can say I am really going for a clean, uncluttered, unfussy look that is a bit more natural.
The question is- should I try to re-decorate, or just see if this new found love of white will pass?

Another white living room.......

I snuck in another white living room. This one caught my eye because I have a similiar lounge chair.
