Brunswick plywood chair -very Eames- y- chair 19

This is a great chair. This picture was when it lived in the living room, it then resided in my bedroom for a while, now, I think it's going to my office. It is very comfortable and sturdy. When my father in law was alive, this was his favorite chair. He was very ill, and had trouble sitting, but he could in this chair. For that reason alone, I can't ever get rid of this chair.

I found this in a thrift store in Tx. about 7 years ago I guess, I paid 12.oo for it- alot for me, but I have never regretted this chair purchase. (come to think of it, I have never regretted any chair purchase)

Metal vintage lawn chair- chair 18

this was part of 5 vintage metal chairs I purchased this summer - all 5 for 5 dollars. Yup, 1 dollar each. I sold 4 of them at my yard sale -don't worry, they were NOT cheap when I re sold them. But I kept this one, it was different than the others, more decrative. There is another chair on the porch, but that's for another day.....

Plycraft chair in office- chair 17

This was purchased for me by my mother. She found it in an auction and no one else wanted it- she paid 5 dollars- or was it 6. I can't remember. It was outside with a bunch of crap, not inside with the furniture. It has a few rips in the leather seat and a small chip in the wood. All in all though, it's in pretty nice condition. It's suprisingly comfortable. I like it to read in.

chair 14- Herman Miller Fiberglass stacking chair- oh, might as well do 15 and 16 too

These are my Herman Miller Fiberglass stacking chairs, in a nice -but boring- creamy color. They are in rather nice condition. One is in my mudroom- I will use that to take off shoes etc.... the other 2 are in my basement family room. They are just used for extra seating. The fact that they stack makes them great space savers when not in use. All 3 have their original label, and all original pieces and parts. They were 7 dollars each. 2 may actually go up for re sale next spring, but I'm not sure about that yet.
So, chair 14 is in the mudroom, chairs 15 and 16 are in the family room.

chair 13- My sons vintage wooden traditional red chair

Here is the chair in my sons room. It matches his bookshelf full of toys and books. It is the perfect size for him to sit on while he puts on his shoes, or to hold one of his many animal "friends".

It was a wierd color of green when I aquired it (my Mom got it at an auction for a couple bucks) I'm sure it was someones idea of "shabby chic". It was truely horrible. I primed it and painted it red. It has taken a few dings in the past year, but I'm just going to let it "age" this year. He'll outgrow this by next spring- and I have replacement chairs the next size up now (see the aquisition post) and they'll be ready to go then. This chair will be in my garage sale next spring I'm sure. (see- I do move them about)

chair 12- Office chair for my desk.

This is a vintage molded plywood chair, with metal legs and upholstered seat and back rest. It has no label, and at one time I could have told you who made this beauty. Alas, I have forgotten. Part of me wants to say that it is Italian, but because I am so close to Grand Rapids Michigan it could also be from there. It is so very comfortable, and goes quite well with my vintage danish modern desk. Plus, it's light, and doesn't take up much space in my office, because it totally fits in the knee cubby hole thing of my desk. It is in very nice condition, no chips in the plywood, no rust on the metal, no stains on the fabric.
I found this baby in a junky, nasty thrift store for 2.99. They even loaded it into my car for me.

I'm going in the wrong direction- I just aquired 2 1/2 more chairs!

Going down the road today I saw 2 1/2 chairs just calling my name. SO, of course I had to get them and bring them to a good home.

The 2 chairs look almost the same as the childs chair in my living room that I featured in yesterdays post. They are larger, and their finish isn't nice (at all) but I will probably paint or re- stain them. I am going to keep them I think. They might be good for my son and his friends. The half chair is the bottom of a Thonet bentwood chair. Yes, just the bottom. Someone has removed the top piece. But left the Thonet tag on the the bottom. Fools. Anyway, that 1/2 chair is in great condition but the finish is lousey. Going to have to repaint that. It will make a fantastic stool. All three items were 2.00. For all of them.

Ok, so I know I am kind of going in the wrong direction, but these are good aquisitions. They may go into storage in my pump room until spring though. My plate is little full right now and I already have 4 other "project" chairs to finish.

The chairs in my living room (chairs 9 through 11)

These are the 3 chairs in my living room ( I also have 2 sofas) I think that having a lot of seating in a living room is a good thing. We can have 8 people over for dinner and then we can all sit in the living room and have a nice chat. The top chair is for my 3yr old son. I think it was originally made for a day care situation. It is made like iron. My big boy husband can stand on it. I paid 5 bucks for it at a thrift store. I really liked it's nice, simple lines and the fact that it is woodl
The other 2 chairs are danish modern. Both were purchased at different times, together they were less than 10 bucks. I do have slip covers on them (washable) from laz y boy. (those were at big lots for 7 dollars each on clearance.) The chair on the right is larger and deeper and a bit more comfortable.

My other dining room chairs- the ones in the magazine

These are my other dining room chairs (chairs 5 thru 8 if you are counting) They have no makers marks or labels. They are on the cover of the above magazine. I bought the chairs and had the magazine, but didin't realize they were the same chairs for over 3 mos. I don't know anything about these chairs at all, but they are comfortable, sturdy enough, and they were cheap- 6 bucks each at a thrift store. I re covered them with 1 dollar a yard fabric and there you go- my dining room chairs.

My 4 Herman Miller Shell Chairs

These are from the mid 70's. They all have original labels and are in pretty good condition. No rips or tears, 2 have some minor discolorations. They were from a college. The woman I bought them from got them from was their only non institutional owner. I paid 50 dollars for all 4. I didn't use them for the past year, trying to figure out if I should sell them (at quite a profit) I decided I liked them to much to pass them on, and now they are in my dining room.
Stay tuned for my next post regarding the other 4 chairs in my dining room!

Why a blog for chairs?

I love chairs. All chairs. And, since I am starting Apartment Therapy's 8 week cure this week, I started to make lists of what needs to be done around my house to get it cleaned, organized, and healthy. Part of this cure is to simplifiy and de clutter. I was amazed when I started looking around and really "seeing" what I owned.

I own 46 chairs. 2 highchairs, and 6 benches. All in a house that is less than 1100 sq ft. I might just have a problem.
