My 4 Herman Miller Shell Chairs

These are from the mid 70's. They all have original labels and are in pretty good condition. No rips or tears, 2 have some minor discolorations. They were from a college. The woman I bought them from got them from was their only non institutional owner. I paid 50 dollars for all 4. I didn't use them for the past year, trying to figure out if I should sell them (at quite a profit) I decided I liked them to much to pass them on, and now they are in my dining room.
Stay tuned for my next post regarding the other 4 chairs in my dining room!

I saw your comment on AT and clicked through because I was just dying to know where you find to put your 46 chairs! Cute idea. Reminds me of iloveupstate's "Chesterfield Obsession" (http://mychesterfield.blogspot.com/). Good luck curing!

thank you! I have a total of 16 chairs on the first floor of my house, 4 chairs and 4 benches on my back desk, a bench and a small chair in my back yard, 2 chairs on my front porch. 2 highchairs and 2 sofas are upstairs also. In the garage I have 5 "project chairs" that I am working on. The remander of the chairs are in my family room basement. Yes, I know that's 19. I have 3 stacking Herman Miller chairs down there, 2 stacking kids chairs, 4 Heywood wakefield chairs, 3 upholstered 1960's chairs, a chair for my sewing machine, a fake tulip chair, 2 wierd metal chairs, a great blue fiberglass chair, another black fiberglass chair, an aluminum framed chair, 2 bar stools- I think that's it. that's 19 and 2 stools. a little out of control.....

I clicked through from AT too, Can't wait to see more of these chairs! I'm so jealous, if you ever want to get rid of any you have to let me know. That's one of the glaring absences I am noticing this Cure - not enough seating, especially with Thanksgivng at my house this year! How the heck do you find 46 chairs to love? I can't find 4 in this town!

I admit that I have a chair issue. I think seating in a home is so important, but I also love the way a good chair looks. I find chairs everywhere. The chairs I have in my home may not all be here next year as I do rotate them out of my house and put some for sale. But, I almost always have 40 ish around. This summer I have sold an additonal 20 or so chairs- metal cafe chairs (that had such great black flakey paint) yellow metal porch chairs- a great vintage find that I paid 1 buck for each- a bunch of old kids heywood wakefield school chairs- well you get the picture. But I don't sell them for a job. I just have to move some along every year or I would not have a husband any longer. Or room to move.

I too am impressed by your finds, especially since you've found so many great chairs at thrift stores! I'm not sure those chairs would last long in a NYC thrift store. You have a great eye. Although I agree you should probably get rid of a few of them...

If I put 46 chairs in my space there would not even be room for a bed.

I'm lucky enough to have a small storage area in the pump room of our house so I can rotate my chairs a little bit. But every room in my place (except the bathroom and kitchen) have chairs in them.

I was googling myself (yes, I'm a dork) and found this blog based on del pantano's comment.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one with lots of furniture.

There are currently 3 chesterfield sofas in my living room. OOPS.

I adore sofas too! But, I have to stop at chairs. Really, I do.....
