With a rock yard, a bottle tree and chickens- you'd think I still live in the south....

well, as promised.....my back garden bed. This is directly opposite the back deck on a narrow strip of land that is at the top of the hill going down to the pond to the south and the back "down yard' on the west. It's never really been much of anything until last year when the lilac wall was finally 100% gone and I decided to pull up all of the oddball plants that had been planted there by previous owners and/or birds.

The bottle bush was a present from my Mr. a few years back. I like it best in this spot. The fence behind this is needed as there is a VERY steep drop off there. You would tumble all the way to the pond (more than 20 ft down). The fence is two iron headboards and one foot board. 10 bucks for all at a church sale. With no side rails they could never be used as beds again...and they don't interfere (too much) in the view.

Below is half the old lilac hill. To the right (off camera) the hill is covered with periwinkle. I put in a rock "riverbed" and the south side is covered with decorative grasses..... This will help the erosion issue on the hillside and it will break up an entire hillside of periwinkle. The periwinkle will still spread over there on the ground around the grasses in the next few years....

More pics of the garden bed. There is approx 1/2 ton of rocks up here. Next year I'm going to work on the forsythia that is on the far right side of this picture. It's going to be lowered and tied up so it doesn't droop so much.  It's very "wild".

close up of my funny plastic chickens. I got those as a goof for 1 dollar at a yard sale. They have become one of my favorite things.

Next year I plan on putting in a few more flowering perennials in yellow to up the color in this garden. Not this year though. I've done enough. I need to rest.

more soon!

It's really amazing. I couldn't imagine creating such a funky, chic, place. But I love it.
