Vintage sofa fabric- flame stitch from the 70's.

This is the sofa fabric. What goes with this?????

yes, it's bold. and kinda ugly. and the sofa parts are big- 7 ft long for the sofa and another 4 ft of curved sofa (sectional) so, there's a lot of it. . But it's staying. So I have to deal with it. Pillows and throws might cover some of this up.

The room it's in is beige, green and cream. The colors in the sofa are a sunwashed (made to be that way- not just left in the sun too long) red, green, blue and an orangy-yellow color. It's got a cream background. The sofa is a triple pillow back and so is the curved section.

What I don't understand is whatever possessed someone to chose this fabric- southwestern-y chevrons (or heartbeats) and more traditional florals don't honestly go together- not now, not 20 years ago when this was recovered. Not in the future either as far as I can tell. But, I have learned to live with the sofa (it's comfortable and fits in my space-and it was 35 dollars so it's staying no matter what I say about this fabric)

Ideas?

Any ideas for throw pillows?

Hmm. I just had to go look at your flickr set and rewrite this whole comment. I say do the bullet planter in orange and look for some curtains and throws that bring in the orange and cream some more. Crate and Barrel has a couple of great bright orange throw pillows right now. I would also go for a big rug to bring in more color but it might be tough to find one that didn't darken up the room too much.

that's a new thought- I love orange and didn't consider it in here due to the greenish walls. I'll have to look.....thanks!

I'm just going to make sympathetic and useless noises, as I never know what to do with shiny formal fabric like that. Good luck!

I just saw that orange and cream pillow in the picture with your pup and somebody on flickr suggests painting the planter orange and now all I can see is the orange and cream going on. But then, I did just order some orange curtains for my green office so maybe I'm biased.

There's been a huge trend lately of 'loosly draped sofas'. I say you go that path!

slipcover it. the kind that is stretchy microsuede and comes in three pieces (has separate covers for seat cushions and back cushions). Probably a $150 investment, but well worth it!

I can't slipcover it unless I make it myself. The sofa is not standard- it only has on arm and is 7 ft + long. The curved section is over 4 ft long. It's a very vintage sofa.
It's a great idea though.... I can't make it myself though....

ok- on should read one. It only has one arm. I tried finding a sofa slipcover to no avail. I can't sew one either. I'm just stuck with this pattern.

There is no other patterns in the room save the sofa and a small leaf pattern on the plycraft chair that matches nothing else in the house. The pillows are even solid colors.
